California Local is a hub for local news, government information, community resources and connections. Its mission is to create a safe space for civic engagement, encourage community improvement and strengthen local democracy.
Brand Identity
We designed California Local’s brand to be timeless and trustworthy. The customized typeface is bold and powerful, with eccentric serifs that give it a sense of uniqueness and playfulness. The geolocation icon reinforces the local connection, while elements of the state flag were used to create a sense of pride for California.
Visual Design
The look and feel of California Local’s products are bold, clean, and highly accessible. Our goal was to create a welcoming experience in which the audience feels at home and can easily navigate the wealth of information available.
Ad Design
We created a number of in house ad campaigns to encourage engagement and highlight the pillars of California Local’s mission — to discover reliable local news and information, connect with community leaders, and act to make communities stronger.
Book Design
California Local published How California Works, a comprehensive guide to the state’s inner workings, from public policies and government institutions to wildfires and the homelessness crisis. We designed the book to be accessible and engaging for all, incorporating bold graphics, informative infographics, and compelling quotes.
